SIVASAGAR, June 15: Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia on Monday said the party would remain closely connected with the people over the next five years and work towards strengthening its grassroots organisation while ensuring the implementation of commitments made during the elections.
As part of the party’s organisational outreach programme, Saikia visited Sivasagar and Charaideo districts, where he interacted with party workers and office-bearers.
During the meetings, he discussed the BJP’s resolve to further strengthen its grassroots network and urged party workers to dedicate themselves to public service.
He also emphasised the importance of holding organisational meetings on fixed dates every month to maintain regular contact with people and address local issues.
Saikia said the BJP remains committed to the development of Assam while safeguarding the state’s civilisation, culture and heritage.
He asserted that the party would make every effort to fulfil the promises made to the people during the elections and ensure that developmental initiatives reach all sections of society.
Referring to programmes undertaken to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure, Saikia said large-scale tree plantation and cleanliness drives had been carried out across the country.
He claimed that around 1.15 lakh saplings had been planted as part of the campaign.
Addressing reporters later, the BJP leader said the 21st International Yoga Day would be observed in every district of the state.
He also stated that he would raise the demand in Parliament for recognition of Piyali Phukan and Jewram Dulia Baruah as among the earliest martyrs of India’s freedom struggle.
Commenting on the national economy, Saikia expressed optimism about India’s growth prospects and said the country’s economy was expected to register significant growth over the next five years.
The meetings were attended by district BJP president Bitupon Raidongia, Sonari MLA Dharmeswar Konwar, Nazira MLA Mayur Borgohain, Mahmora MLA Suruj Dihingia, Rhituparna Baruah and Pulak Gohain, among others.
