Book ‘A ZigZag Mind’ launched at Dibrugarh University

DIBRUGARH, March 15: An enriching literary evening celebrating art, culture and intellectual discourse was held at Dibrugarh University with the launch of the book A ZigZag Mind by renowned classical dancer, thinker and author Dr Sonal Mansingh.

The event was held at the Indira Miri Convention Hall on the Dibrugarh University campus.

The programme was presented by the Prabha Khaitan Foundation with support from Oil India Limited under the foundation’s literary initiative Kitaab in association with Dibrugarh University.

The book A ZigZag Mind reflects Dr Mansingh’s multifaceted life as an artist, parliamentarian and cultural ambassador. Known for her profound contribution to Indian classical dance and cultural thought, Dr Mansingh offered readers an intimate glimpse into her unconventional journey, thoughts and experiences that have shaped her dynamic worldview.

The event was graced by Prof Jiten Hazarika, Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, as the chief guest. The guest of honour was noted author Prof Karabi Deka Hazarika. During the programme, Dr Sonal Mansingh engaged in an insightful conversation with educationist Lakhipriya Gogoi, exploring themes from the book and reflecting on art, identity, creativity and the evolving cultural landscape of India.

She spoke about her thoughts on the Guru–Shishya parampara, the strong women characters in epics and mythology and her experience in Cambodia and how dance helped heal the oppressed there.

The audience was moved to hear about her strength and how she recovered from a life-threatening accident in Germany. She also expressed concern about ecological balance in present times.

Members of the audience asked a few pertinent questions, which she addressed. The event was supported by Ehsaas – Women of Dibrugarh, represented by Preeti Bagrodia and Trishna Deorah, who continue to promote cultural engagement and community participation in the region.

The book launch proved to be a significant cultural gathering, bringing together scholars, students, literature enthusiasts and members of the community to celebrate dialogue, creativity and the power of ideas.
