Border festival at Bhalukpong on January 29

TEZPUR, Jan 27: A ‘Border Festival’ will be held at Lal Bahadur Shashtri High School playground at Bhalukpong, Sonitpur on January 29 (Sunday). The fest is being organised in joint collaboration of the district administrations of Sonitpur and West Kameng. Various cultural and sports activities will mark the daylong programme which will begin with a flag hoisting at 8.30 AM, followed by a sporting event which will comprise local sports of the two states. An exhibition will also be inaugurated at 10 in the morning.

The main event will be ceremonially inaugurated at 2 PM by MLA Bhalukpong and MLA Sootea in the presence of various dignitaries, which will be followed by a cultural programme with various folk and tribal dances from the two states.

A musical extravaganza will also be organised and Nahid Afreen of the ‘Indian Idol’ fame from Assam and popular singer Jelly Kayi of Arunachal Pradesh will perform on the occasion.

The event has been organised following instruction received from the Directorate of Border Protection and Development, Assam and this was announced by the Finance Minister, Assam in her Budget Speech during the FY 20022-23.
