KOKRAJHAR, Dec 6: The principal secretary of BTC, Akash Deep, undertook a comprehensive review of developmental schemes and projects during a visit to Baksa district on Friday. The visit aimed to assess the progress of key initiatives targeting the enhancement of infrastructure and livelihoods in the region.
The day-long program featured site inspections, stakeholder interactions, and evaluations of various welfare projects, highlighting the district’s development progress.
During his visit, principal secretary Akash Deep inspected the Barama Model Hospital, established under the RoP NHM scheme of Assam, to assess its infrastructure and healthcare services. He also reviewed the facilities at Barama BEd College, focusing on infrastructure and academic activities designed to expand educational opportunities in the district.
The principal secretary visited the Goldingpara Model Anganwadi Centre, constructed under the SOPD scheme, and the Chandbarikhuti Anganwadi Centre, constructed in convergence with the MGNREGA Scheme of the PNRD department. At the Anganwadi centres, principal secretary Akash Deep and Baksa DC Gautam Das planted fruit saplings in the nutrition gardens.
The principal secretary also visited individual progressive farmers who had benefited from various schemes: a goat shed constructed under the Mahila Lakhpati initiative of the Village Prosperity Resilience Plan (VPRP-IBS) by DRDA at Ambari, and a mushroom cultivation site in Barimukh, supported by the Department of Agriculture and managed by Ranjit Basumatary, which has emerged as a model for sustainable agriculture in the region.
The principal secretary further visited a pig farm at Balapara, operated by Priyanka Swargiary under the Bodoland Pig Mission, as part of his evaluation of livestock initiatives.
In a meeting held at the Subansree VCDC, the principal secretary engaged with field-level workers and VCDC personnel, addressing welfare issues and discussing ongoing initiatives to improve local governance.
The day concluded with a District Development Committee (DDC) meeting, chaired by the principal secretary. During the meeting, he emphasised the importance of the timely implementation of government schemes and reviewed the progress of Council-specific initiatives. He also expressed concern over incomplete projects and urged officials to prioritise their completion. Principal secretary Akash Deep also stressed the effective utilisation of government funds and the delivery of quality public services to the people of Baksa district.
District commissioner Gautam Das, additional deputy commissioners, and officials from DRDA, the Water Resources Department, JJM, PWD, and other key departments were present.
