BTR Chief Pramod Boro attends review meeting in Biswanath

BISHWANATH CHARIALI, Jan 12: A review meeting on the granting of land rights under the ‘Forest Land Rights Act-2006’ was held here today. The meeting was chaired by BTR Chief Pramod Boro at the conference room of Biswanath administration.

There are 62 Forest Rights Committees under Sub-Divisional SDLCs and 54 Forest Rights Committees under DLCs at District level in Biswanath and Gohpur sub-divisions to monitor the land rights of forest dwellers. Altogether 3,989 applications for land rights have been received by the sub-divisional level committees in Gohpur and Biswanath till today. Of these, 3,722 applications were for individuals and 267 for institutions.

Similarly, the district-level committee DLC has received 3,450 applications seeking land rights to date. Of these, 3,066 applications were for individuals and 384 for institutions. There are also 24 new proposals for the formation of new Forest Rights Committees in Biswanath, with 1,805 applications seeking forest rights.

and the applicants are issued title certificates. The meeting also directed the forest authorities to resolve the new demands of the people living in the forest areas of Biswanath as soon as possible and through some simplified process so that the people living in the forest areas are not deprived of government benefits.

The meeting was attended by the deputy commissioner of Sonitpur — Deva Kumar Mishra; deputy commissioner of Biswanath — Munindra Nath Nagatey; Biswanath MLA Pramod Barthakur, Behali MLA Ranjit Dutta, Gohpur MLA Utpal Bora; ADC, Sonitpur — Dyutibha Barua; additional deputy commissioner — Kulen Sharma, SDO Gohpur — Dipan Barman besides other representatives and dignitaries.
