BTR govt celebrates Bodo Peace Accord day

KOKRAJHAR, Jan 27: Marking the 5th anniversary of the historic BTR Peace Accord, the Bodoland Territorial Region government began the celebration on Monday commemorating the accord day.
The celebration will span two days with a series of events lined up.

The first day of the event was carried out in all districts and 40 constituencies of the BTR region. It kicked off with a grand bike rally in Kokrajhar, which saw enthusiastic participation from netizens as BTR Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro and district commissioner of Kokrajhar, Masanda Magdalin Pertin flagged off the rally.
Speaking to The Hills Times about the progress of the peace accord, Boro, one of the key signatories of the BTR accord, expressed satisfaction with its success. He emphasised that the accord has brought peace, stability, and development to the region, marking a significant milestone in the history of BTR.

The two-day program aims to celebrate the achievements of the peace accord while reflecting on the journey of growth and harmony in the region.


“To celebrate the successful completion of the five glorious years of the historic BTR Peace Accord 2020, I was delighted to flag off a Bike Rally in Kokrajhar this morning. The BTR Peace Accord ushered in an unprecedented era of sustainable peace, harmony, and integrity in our region, and the bike rally carried forward our message of peace & progress in celebration of this historic moment,” CEM said.
On January 28, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will attend various programmes scheduled to be held at Green Field, Bodofa Nwgwr in Kokrajhar.

Sarma will inaugurate the newly constructed hostels for BTC EMs (Executive Members) and MCLAs (Members of the Council Legislative Assembly) at Harinaguri along the Baukhungri Hills, lay the foundation stone of Kokrajhar University campus, and perform the Gwthar Bathou San celebration at the Bathou Traditional & Cultural Centre at Bagansali in Kokrajhar town.
He will also address a public gathering during the event.
In the afternoon, an award distribution ceremony was held at the Bodofa Cultural Complex, where individuals excelling in various fields were honoured by the BTR government for their contributions to society.

Meanwhile, the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) celebrated the BTR Peace Accord Day centrally at Kashikotra HS School playground in Chirang district.
Notably, president of ABSU, Dipen Boro chaired the event.
The BTR Peace Accord, regarded as the third Bodo accord, was signed on January 27, 2020, between the Bodo movement groups (ABSU, ex-NDFB, and UBPO), and the Centre and Assam government.
