GOLAGHAT, July 16: Cairn Oil & Gas, a unit of the Vedanta Group and India’s largest private oil and gas producer, has intensified its focus on grassroots-level youth empowerment in Assam through digital literacy and vocational skill development programmes.

The company is driving multiple interventions across its operational areas to promote entrepreneurship, digital access, and economic self-reliance among young people in under-served communities.

According to an official statement, one of the flagship initiatives has taken root in Golaghat district’s Sarupathar College, where more than 3,900 students are now actively participating in digital learning programmes.

The digital classroom initiative, which began as a modest effort by Cairn, has evolved into a full-fledged skill development centre.

The programme has bridged a significant digital divide, enabling students—many of whom had limited exposure to technology—to attend online lectures, engage in webinars, and even host virtual events.

“Youth are the future of the nation, and it is our responsibility to provide them with an opportunity to build a meaningful life,” said a spokesperson of Cairn Oil & Gas, “We are proud to see these young individuals, trained in our centres, succeed independently and with confidence. Our skill-building efforts in Assam are shaping a future-ready workforce. Investing in youth capabilities is not just socially imperative—it’s a catalyst for sustained regional and national progress.”

Marking World Youth Skills Day 2025, themed ‘Youth Empowerment through AI and Digital Skills,’ Cairn reaffirmed its commitment to self-reliance and nation building.

The company stated that it is investing in scalable, inclusive, and technology-driven programmes that equip the next generation for the evolving demands of the workforce.

Further strengthening its grassroots outreach, Cairn has partnered with the Department of Agriculture and Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, to launch a region-specific Tea Management and Certification course at Sarupathar College.

The two-month programme, designed to align with the region’s economic backbone—tea cultivation—trains up to 120 students per batch.

The course offers a blend of classroom instruction and field training in sustainable tea production, aimed at improving employment prospects in a sector that remains vital to Upper Assam’s economy.

The company emphasised that such regionally grounded and globally resonant training programmes not only empower youth with practical skills but also help develop leadership in local communities.

Through this multi-pronged approach—combining digital literacy, agricultural training, and entrepreneurship development—Cairn seeks to contribute meaningfully to a self-reliant and future-ready Assam.
