DIPHU, May 23: Two people- Moon Engtipi and Simeon Terang of Mumding Terang village under Angjokpani police station, were arrested by Diphu police on Wednesday for allegedly collecting by promising government jobs.
The arrest was made on the basis of a complaint lodged by a victim.
A case (No. 56/23 under sections 406/420/34 of the IPC) has been registered against them at Diphu police station.
It is alleged that the duo had been collecting money from many by promising them government jobs since 2020 until now.
On Tuesday last, one of the victims of ‘cash-for-job’, Nobin Chandra Goyari, told media persons at Langhin LAMPS office that Moon Engtipi had taken Rs 8 lakh from him with the promise of getting a government job for his son under Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).
Goyari said that he gave the amount to Moon Engtipi.
Moon Engtipi and her team had taken money from 20 others by luring them with jobs.
Gayari, however, got back Rs 7 lakh.
Raju Dev of Langhin said that in June 2021, Engtipi took Rs 9,85,000 from him for the post of Grade IV in the Irrigation Department. Sadhin Killing, who filed the FIR against Engtipi and her associate Simeon Terang, said that he was approached by them and took Rs. 10 lakh to work together as a team in Lahorijan and Garampani Entry Tax Gate for the tender, which has been settled in the name of the CEM of KAAC’s wife.
On May 24, the state president of Bharatiya Janata Kishan Morcha, BJP-Assam Pradesh, and the district president, BJP-EKADC, suspended Engtipi from the post of secretary, Kishan Morcha, BJP-EKADC, in the ‘cash for job’ scam.
