Cattle smuggler hurt, 2 others held

KOKRAJHAR, Nov 28: A cattle smuggler reportedly received bullet injuries at a police encounter late last night and two others were arrested in Kokrajhar district.

According to police, a cattle smuggler sustained serious injuries at an encounter that happened at Kakrikola around 2 am under Kokrajhar police station last night and in a separate case two others were apprehended from Jaoliapara who were involved in smuggling cattle in the district.

The injured cattle smuggler was rushed to the Barpeta Medical College immediately after the incident. He has been identified as Kairul Islam of Jaoliapara of Kokrajhar district.

The cattle smuggler was arrested while he was trying to smuggle cattle from Kokrajhar town area.

Police informed that Kairul Islam tried to snatch away the pistol of a police officer and consequently the police had to fire at him.

On the same night, police also arrested two more cattle smugglers in Jaoliapara village near Simbargaon in Kokrajhar district.

They were identified as Nur Muhammad (33) and Alhas Ali Sikdar (31) of Choto Mojabari Chirang district. An FIR was lodged with Kokrajhar PS.

Police have been taking strict steps against cattle smuggling in the district, said a senior police officer.
