GUWAHATI, Oct 26: In line with the Special Campaign 3.0 initiated by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, the Guwahati Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and Customs Zone, a part of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, carried out the destruction of seized goods. The operation involved the disposal of 9,077.24 kilograms of Ganja valued at Rs 14.44 crores and 1.51 crore foreign-origin cigarette sticks worth Rs 29.66 crores, which were seized under the Customs Act, 1962.
This destruction, conducted by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), is part of the Special Campaign 3.0, which aims to efficiently manage and dispose of seized goods while enhancing public welfare and national well-being. Additionally, it contributes to maintaining cleanliness and freeing up office space, which are key objectives of Special Campaign 3.0.
The Drugs Destruction Drive was led by Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Chairman of CBIC, with the presence of Bandhana Deori, Chief Commissioner of CGST and Customs in the Guwahati Zone, G M Kamei, ADG DRI, Mahfuzur Rahman, CCP NER Shillong, Rajeev Yadav, Pr. ADG DG HRD, and Debasish Dey, Regional Officer of the State Pollution Control Board.
In the previous financial year (2022-23), the Guwahati Customs also conducted the destruction of 7,472.4 kilograms of Ganja valued at Rs 7.72 crore and 1.78 crore foreign-origin cigarette sticks valued at Rs 30.23 crore. The operation included the disposal of other customs-seized goods such as black pepper, dried dates, and anti-mosquito coils.
