CM reviews Dr Nagen Saikia’s health at AMCH

GUWAHATI, July 24: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday visited Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH) to assess the health condition of renowned litterateur and former Asam Sahitya Sabha President Dr Nagen Saikia.

According to an official statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, Dr Saikia, a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award, is currently admitted to AMCH for treatment of an undisclosed illness.

Upon arrival, Dr Sarma met with the team of attending physicians and medical staff to receive a comprehensive briefing on the patient’s condition.

He inquired about Dr Saikia’s vital parameters, ongoing treatment protocols, and projected recovery timeline.

“Dr. Nagen Saikia has made an indelible contribution to Assamese literature and culture,” the official statement quoted the Chief Minister as saying, “We must ensure that he receives the best possible care and support during his treatment.”

Sarma also discussed with hospital authorities the availability of specialised equipment, requisite medicines, and any additional resources needed for Dr Saikia’s recovery. He directed AMCH Principal Professor Sanjeeb Kakati and the medical team to extend round the clock monitoring and to keep his office updated on developments.

Professor Kakati assured the chief minister that Dr Saikia was under expert supervision and that all necessary measures were being taken to facilitate his speedy recovery.

The Principal also thanked the CM for his personal interest in the well being of the veteran writer.

The chief minister’s visit underscores the state government’s commitment to supporting cultural icons and ensuring their access to quality healthcare, the statement added.
