TEZPUR, April 28: With just three days remaining for the Panchayat elections in Sonitpur district, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday asserted that Assam has emerged as a model of development under the BJP government.

Addressing a poll rally at Bihaguri-Rangamati, about 12 km from Tezpur town, the Chief Minister emphasised the state’s progress under his nearly four-year leadership.

Sarma stated that peace has been restored in the region and that Assam has witnessed remarkable development in various sectors.

“On May 10, I will complete four years as Chief Minister. During this period, we have ensured peace and brought progress to all sectors of society,” he said, underscoring the government’s focus on transparent and efficient governance.

Speaking in Barchala LAC, Sarma reiterated the BJP’s vision of a “new Assam,” highlighting reforms such as merit-based recruitment, enhanced access to government jobs for economically disadvantaged families, and people-centric welfare schemes.

He announced that the government plans to expand the flagship Arunodoi scheme, with 38,000 to 40,000 women to be added in each constituency.

“No poor woman should be left out,” he said.

Additionally, he revealed a new initiative to offer LPG cylinders at a subsidized rate of ₹600 and provide unemployed graduates with ₹2,500 per month for one year to support their job search.

Taking aim at the Congress, Sarma accused the previous regime of corruption in recruitment processes, referencing findings from the Biplab Sarma Committee report.

“During the Congress rule, no aspirant could get a job without paying money,” he alleged.
