DIPHU, Nov 13: The Diphu Area Baptist Fellowship (DABF) celebrated its golden jubilee to commemorate the completion of 50 years at DABF office, near Phonglangso Baptist Church, Lumding Road on Sunday.
DABF was formed on July 2, 1972. Initially it was part of Angbong Karbi Baptist Christian Longri Amei (AKBCLA). The DABF is affiliated under Nihang Karbi Baptist Association (NKBA), a conglomeration of more than 100 Baptist churches in Karbi Anglong.
The DABF now has 19 Baptist churches and 20 Baptist Fellowships. The present president of DABF is Khoyasing Ronghang of Diphu Baptist Church (DBC); vice president, Harun Rongpi, Pastor, Rongchingdon BC; general secretary Horen Killing of DBC and assistant secretary, Andrew Teron of Klirdap BC.
The chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang also participated in the cultural programme and witnessed the various cultural dances demonstrated by the cultural troupes of DABF.
The CEM has announced the construction of a community hall for holding of meetings.
Later a jubilee service was held which was chaired by president, DABF Women Fellowship, Altimai Terangpi. The speaker, general secretary and mission secretary, Karbi Anglong Baptist Convention, Rev. Kamson Rongphar in his message stressed about the need to be a living church, where it does not become stagnant, but grows. He also stressed on the need for proper caring of children by Christian families. Rongphar also warned the Christian youths of today for losing interest in going to church rather than being more interested in outside the church activities.
The general secretary, KABC also stressed on the importance of evangelism and said, “Our prime duty as Christian is to reach the gospel to those unheard as God has commissioned us to do. If we all become missionaries, we can reach the gospel to each and every person.”
Time was taken for presentation of mementos and gifts for past and present office bearers of DABF, DABF Women Fellowship and DABF Youth Fellowship for acknowledgement of their service.
Choir was presented by the jubilee choir. There was an offertory collection and bible reading was taken up by Roselyn Tokbipi.
The evening worship service was chaired by DABF vice president and Pastor, Rongchingdon BC, Harun Rongpi, while Executive Secretary, NKBA, Rev. Tenson Bey.
