KHERONI, Aug 10: The West Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (WKA-DCC) held a convention at Donkamokam, West Karbi Anglong, on Saturday to strengthen the party’s grassroots network ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
The event, led by WKA-DCC president Augustine Enghee, was attended by senior leaders including All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) co-incharge Manoj Chauhan, APCC general secretary and WKA-DCC in-charge Ashok Teron, former Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) deputy chairman Mahesh Chauhan, and other party figures.
The convention focused on bolstering the Congress’s organisational structure at the grassroots level and devising strategies to enhance party unity and mobilise support across West Karbi Anglong.
Addressing the gathering, Manoj Chauhan warned against possible voter list manipulation in Assam, drawing parallels with alleged irregularities in Bihar.
He reiterated claims by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of colluding with the Election Commission to engage in vote theft.
Chauhan alleged that in Bihar, the BJP inflated its vote share and removed the names of voters supporting the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and Left parties from the rolls.
He cautioned that similar tactics could be attempted in Assam through a special and extensive voter list revision process.
“We will not allow such attempts to succeed in Assam under any circumstances,” he said, vowing that the Congress would resist any efforts to delete names from voter lists.
The convention ended with Congress leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the party’s organisational base and safeguarding the democratic rights of voters ahead of the 2026 elections.
