JORHAT, March 2: The Jorhat district unit of the Indian National Congress (INC) on Monday held an extended executive meeting at Congress Bhawan as part of preparations for the forthcoming Assam Assembly elections.
The meeting, presided over by Jorhat district INC president Putul Buragohain, was attended by mandal and booth-level leaders, along with members of the district executive committee.
Reviewing the party’s organisational activities, Buragohain stressed the need to further strengthen the grassroots base and intensify outreach at the booth level.
He urged party workers and supporters to visit every household, listen to public grievances and highlight what he termed as the “failures of the present government and its anti-people policies.”
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) general secretary Subhramitra Gogoi, addressing the gathering, said elections are not merely about coming to power but about safeguarding the rights of common people.
He expressed confidence that victory would be achievable if party workers functioned in a disciplined and organised manner across every booth.
Earlier, Jorhat district general secretary (administration) Indrajit Pegu outlined the objectives of the meeting and emphasised coordinated efforts ahead of the polls.
It may be noted that of the four Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) in Jorhat district, Jorhat and Mariani are currently represented by the BJP, Teok by its alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), while Titabar is held by the Congress.
