NAGAON, April 1: One Alim Uddin, a fair price shopkeeper of Madhyam Chamrali village under Barbali Chamrali Samabay Samity in Hojai district, allegedly has been siphoning off 2 kilograms of rice, being supplied by the government under various schemes of National Food Security Act 2013 through the public distribution system, from every beneficiary under his area for overlong.

Notably, while one Rubel Ahmed objected to slashing 2 kilograms of rice from him, the fair price shopkeeper Alim Uddin and his family members leaped on him and injured him recently. Following the incident, a large number of villagers protested and submitted separate memorandums to deputy commissioner Hojai and additional director of District Food and Civil Supply department and sought legal action against Alim Uddin.

Besides, both Alim Uddin and their family members of Ahmed have lodged two separate FIRs in Murajhar PS in connection with the incident. It is noteworthy that the government is allocating 35 kilograms per month to a family under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana scheme and 5 kilograms of rice per head through priority household card as well as Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana respectively under the National Food Security Act 2013.

Significantly, the district authority of Hojai food, civil supplies, and public affairs are delaying taking action against the fair price shopkeeper Alim Uddin. Some of the locals alleged that the authorities are protecting the fair price shopkeeper instead of taking action against him.
