Craft Demonstration At Diphu Club

DIPHU: Helping Hand for Artisans, a Guwahati based NGO, sponsored by the office of Development Commissioner (handicrafts) Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India, inaugurated a six day craft demonstration for local artisans here at Diphu Club on Monday.

Diphu MLA Bidyasing Engleng inaugurated the craft demonstration in presence of MLA Dorsing Ronghang; Executive Member (EM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Handloom & Textiles and Fisheries, Madhuram Lekthe; EM Amarsing Tisso and Member of Autonomous Council, Tilottima Hasnu.

MLA Engleng said the Helping Hand for Artisans has shown the path to local artisans for production of their own textiles, crafts and hand embroidery products which can be sold. The artisans during the six day demonstration will learn many things on textiles craft and embroidery which is going to benefit them.

EM Lekthe said the Handloom & Textiles department is going to provide Rs 10,000 as grant-in-aid to women SHGs engaged in textiles production.

President of the NGO, Ajay Majhi said there are 30 local artisans participating in the demonstration, where various products like traditional handbags, shawls, gamocha, etc., of various artistic textile craft and hand embroidery craft are being demonstrated.

The NGO secretary, Debasish Das and Sabina Teronpi, who are working on the promotion of local artisans were also present in the inauguration.
