TEZPUR, May 6: Kartik Hazarika, the former president of All Assam Students Union, a veteran stage and film actor and a devoted leader of  regional politics in Assam   also who served  historic Baan Theatre in Tezpur from 1992   for  fourteen consecutive years as the general secretary  was remembered on Thursday  to commemorate his  8th death anniversary.
It is pertinent to mention that the prominent socio-cultural-political activist from Ketekibari here was dedicatedly involved in the Assam Agitation from his student life. He was also  the president of Darrang College Students’ Union, president of the then undivided Darrang district of the AASU, president of Gauhati University PG Students’ Union and president of All Assam Students Union. He joined the AGP in 1996 and contested the Lok Sabha elections too.
The Baan Theatre family organised a special tribute paying programme on Thursday evening   in memory of the beloved leader which was conducted by   Pankaj Barua, executive member of Baan Theatre. The vice-president of Ban Theater Bhabananda Das lit the lantern at the portrait of Kartik Hazarika alongwith another vice-president Dilip Bora .
A prominent playwright-director and recipient of the Bhola Kalita Memorial Award, Karuna Saikia who was also  a classmate of Kartik Hazarika since he was a fourth grade student  recalled the  memories of his attachment  and narrated the contributions of Kartika Hazarika towards Assamese socio-cultural and political arena. Dilip Bora, the vice-president of Baan Theatre and a close associate of Hazarika, said that Hazarika’s organising skills were unique and extraordinary.
Among other dignitaries Bhupen Sharma, Sanjay Krishna Gohani Barua, Manoranjan Mahanta, Kishore Sarma, Taj Hussain, Jintu Barthakur, Naren Saikia, Hemadhar Das, Bhupen Barua, Debabrat Sarma and Moromi Saikia ,Mrigen Chandra Bora, Ranjit Saikia and others paid tributes to the noted leader.
