MARGHERITA, Oct 22: The sacred festival of the Buddhist community, Danottam Kathin Chivar Daan Utsav, was celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion for two days on October 21 and 22 at the Margherita Buddha Vihar in Tinsukia district.
Organised under the initiative of the Margherita Buddha Vihar Committee, the two-day celebration began with Prabhat Bandana and the hoisting of the World Buddhist Flag, followed by Buddha Puja, Sangha Daan, and the Kathin Chivar Daan ceremony.
A religious assembly was also held on the occasion.
Bhikkhu Gyanowada, President of Margherita Buddha Vihar, presided over the religious assembly where several Buddhist monks from different regions of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh participated and delivered speeches on the significance of the Danottam Kathin Chivar Daan Utsav.
In conjunction with the festival, the Muchilinda Lake and Anegaja Tang of Panchabargiya Vihar were inaugurated at the Margherita Buddha Vihar premises by Margherita Co-District Commissioner Rahul Doley and Extra Assistant Commissioner Pritom Gogoi.
A meditation session was conducted after the assembly.
In the evening, candles were lit in memory of the late artist Zubeen Garg along with prayers for world peace.
Around 1,000 Buddhist devotees from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh participated in the Danottam Kathin Chivar Daan Utsav at Margherita Buddha Vihar.
