MORIGAON, Aug 5: The Debajani Deka Education Trust, a leading literary and socio-cultural organisation based in Morigaon, organised a book critique programme on Sunday evening at Nipun Pam, Baghara.
The event focused on two books authored by women writers that highlight the experiences and contributions of the Indian Army from the 1962 Indo-China war to the 1999 Kargil conflict.
The featured works were “Bharatiya Sena Bahini Aru Lekhikar Biyaktigata Abhigyata” (Indian Army and the Writer’s Personal Experience) by Sandhyarani Dutta Kakati, and “Tolilong to Kargil” by Ami Barthakur. Both books aim to underline the Indian Army’s role, dedication, and importance to the nation.
Organised by Ashok Deka, secretary of the Debajani Deka Education Trust and proprietor of Nipun Pam, the programme combined literary critique with cultural performances.
Noted writer and scholar Dr Paban Ch Gogoi provided a critical analysis of the two books in a solemn and reflective setting.
The event featured a patriotic song by Ankita Das and a stage performance of the play “Ekajali Rod”, a translated version of “Dhup Ka Ek Tukra”.
The programme was attended by prominent personalities including chief guest and poet Keshab Bora, noted Tiwa writer Maneswar Deuri, retired Colonel Jagadish Ch Kakati, and several other writers and poets.
Speaking to The Hills Times, author Ami Barthakur remarked, “Though many books are being published, critical reviews remain scarce. A proper review gives readers the real flavour of the book. I believe my book Tolilong to Kargil will inspire youth who wish to serve in the Indian Army.”
She added that her work is based on the life of Captain Jintu Gogoi, who was martyred in the line of duty.
