The unveiling ceremony took place near Synod Rotary for Sengyajik Joya Thaosen and near the SE, PWD (R&B) office for Princess Dishru in Haflong town. The event was graced by the presence of Nandita Gorlosa, the Assam minister for power, sports & youth welfare, among others.

Following the unveiling of the statues, a grand public gathering was held at the N. L. Daulagupu Stadium, attended by around twelve thousand people representing all corners of Dima Hasao. The attendees were dressed in traditional Dimasa attire, and the event featured a captivating Dimasa traditional dance performance by 2000 women, organized by the Council’s Cultural and Publicity Department.

CEM Debolal Gorlosa addressed the enthusiastic crowd and emphasized the importance of preserving one’s cultural roots and heritage. He praised the bravery and dedication of freedom fighter Joya Thaosen, whose sacrifices contributed to the peaceful life enjoyed by the people in the district.

Gorlosa also highlighted the artistic legacy of Princess Dishru, who played a pioneering role in Dimasa handloom weaving. Her contributions have left an indelible mark on the community’s handloom traditions, producing beautiful and artistic designs.
