Demow erupts in protest over alleged murder of Moran College student

DEMOW, Aug 29: Protesters blocked NH-37 in Demow Chariali on Thursday, demanding justice for Bishal (Kopil) Borah, a student of Moran College whose dead body was recovered from Moran Tea Estate on Monday evening. It is alleged that the youth was murdered. According to information received, Bishal (Kopil) Borah, who lived in a rented house, was called to Moran Tea Estate by two youths from 1 No Udaipur Gaon on Monday, and it is suspected that the incident occurred at that time. The Moran police apprehended the two youths from 1 No Udaipur Gaon on Monday night.

In response to the incident, protests erupted, with people demanding that those responsible for the murder be hanged. Residents of Udaipur Gaon marched to Demow Chariali on Thursday and blocked NH-37, demanding justice for Bishal (Kopil) Borah. The massive protest saw demonstrators displaying placards and calling for the hanging of the murderers. Police security was heightened in Demow Chariali during the protest.

Later, the additional superintendent of police (Crime) and the Demow circle officer arrived to assess and control the situation. A protester stated that they will continue to demand justice until Bishal (Kopil) Borah receives it.

Residents of 2 No Udaipur submitted a letter to the OC of Moran Police Station through the OCs of Demow Police Station and Nitaipukhuri Police Outpost on Thursday. On Wednesday evening, a tribute program was organised in Demow Chariali for Bishal (Kopil) Borah, where people from Chakalapathar Gaon, local youths, AASU leader Partha Sarathi Gogoi, and others paid tribute by lighting earthen lamps, candles, and offering flowers in front of his photo, praying for the eternal peace of his departed soul.
