KHERONI, Aug 14: The Diphu-Hamren main road at Kheroni Charali, about 3 km from the Assistant Executive Engineer (PWD) Kheroni Sub-Division office in West Karbi Anglong district, has fallen into disrepair, disrupting travel for residents, students, farmers, petty traders and government employees.
The road connects Donkamokam — home of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang, who is in charge of PWD, KAAC — and Hamren, the district headquarters, to the rest of the district.

Despite its strategic importance, no major repairs have been carried out.
The stretch, which lies between the Amreng and Kapili MAC constituencies represented by Pawan Kumar and Executive Member Rina Terangpi respectively, is reported to have been in poor condition for months, with potholes, uneven surfaces and inadequate maintenance making travel hazardous, especially in adverse weather.
Concerns escalated recently when an oil tanker capsized at Kheroni Charali, highlighting the dangers posed by the road’s condition.
The incident has worsened commuting challenges, with students struggling to reach schools, farmers facing difficulties transporting produce and government employees experiencing delays.
Residents have criticised both the authorities and elected representatives for failing to act despite the road’s proximity to the PWD office.
“This road is a daily nightmare,” said a local trader who depends on the route for transporting goods. “Students, farmers and workers are suffering, yet no one seems to care.”
Locals have demanded urgent repairs from the KAAC, PWD and elected representatives, warning that without immediate action, the worsening condition of the road will continue to endanger commuters and disrupt daily life in West Karbi Anglong.
