KHERONI, Aug 16: The main road connecting Kheroni Charali to Donkamokam, considered a vital lifeline for West Karbi Anglong district, has deteriorated into a hazardous condition, severely affecting residents, students, farmers, traders, and government employees.
The stretch, located barely 3 km from the office of the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), Kheroni Sub-Division, is the only major route linking Donkamokam, the home of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang, who is also in charge of PWD, to the rest of the district.

Marked by uneven surfaces, deep potholes, and prolonged neglect, the road has become increasingly dangerous for commuters.
The seriousness of the situation was highlighted recently when an oil tanker overturned at Kheroni Charali.
Another incident occurred on Saturday when a bamboo-laden Tata Mobile truck met with an accident at the same location.
The road serves as the sole access route to schools, colleges, banks, government offices, a police station, a government hospital, Public Health Engineering (PHE) offices, emergency services, and local markets.
It is also the primary route used by two local representatives, Pawan Kumar, Kapili MAC, and Rina Terangpi, Executive Member and MAC Amreng, KAAC, whose residences are just a few kilometres away.
Despite its strategic importance, no significant repair work has been undertaken by the PWD or local authorities. Residents said the condition of the road has been neglected for months, even though it has received attention in both traditional and social media.
Frustration among commuters is mounting as daily travel remains fraught with risk.
The community has renewed its demand that the authorities take urgent steps to repair and restore this critical roadway to ensure safe and reliable access.
