DIBRUGARH, Aug 10: The Dibrugarh Press Club (DPC), in association with Dr Radhakrishnan School of Arts, Commerce and Science, organised a one-day journalism workshop at the CK Sarma Hospitality Centre, DDSA Stadium, Dibrugarh, on Sunday as part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations.
The workshop was inaugurated by Rupam Saikia, inspector of colleges, Dibrugarh University and Chairperson, Centre for Juridical Studies, DU, in the presence of special guest Bikash Gogoi, principal of Dr Radhakrishnan School; DPC president Manash Jyoti Dutta; general secretary Ripunjoy Das; and other dignitaries and club members.

Three interactive sessions were conducted by eminent resource persons.
The first was delivered by Oil India Ltd General Manager (HR) Tridiv Hazarika, followed by noted writer and Dibrugarh University professor of Assamese, Satyakam Borthakur.
The concluding session was conducted by senior journalist and former East India Correspondent of BBC World Service, Subir Bhaumik.
Hazarika spoke on the transformation of media in the digital age, highlighting the rise of platforms such as Facebook, X, and YouTube, and urged students to use them productively without hampering their studies.
Borthakur discussed challenges facing journalism, including political interference and suppression of information, and stressed the need to present all sides of a story and work for public welfare.
Bhaumik expressed concern over political control of media houses, revenue-driven newsrooms, and the spread of unverified information on social media, urging young journalists to maintain credibility by staying connected with mainstream media.
Around 200 students from various schools and colleges, including Dibrugarh University, participated in the workshop.
DPC president Dutta expressed satisfaction over the active participation of students, while general secretary Das said the event aimed to inspire students to explore journalism as a career.
Certificates were distributed to all participants.
