Haflong, July 21: The District Co-ordination Committee for Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC) convened a meeting at the Office of the Joint Director Health Service in Haflong on Friday. During the meeting, joint director of Health Service, Dr Duleshwar Gogoi, provided insights into the seriousness of leprosy disease, its impact on the skin and peripheral nerves, and the potential consequences on affected body parts.
Dr Gogoi emphasised the importance of early detection and intervention to tackle leprosy effectively. He informed the attendees that, according to reports, not a single case of leprosy has been recorded in Dima Hasao district since 2021. This accomplishment is a testament to the efforts and awareness campaigns conducted by various departments in the region.
The meeting served as a platform to create further awareness about leprosy and to call for continued cooperation among all departments for the success of the leprosy case detection campaign. Dr Gogoi urged all participants to actively support the initiative.
The LCDC campaign will be carried out in three rounds, and its periodic organisation will help sustain the efforts to combat leprosy in the region effectively.
