GUWAHATI, Feb 2: Dima Hasao marked its District Foundation Day on Monday with great enthusiasm at the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) Complex in Haflong.
The programme was graced by NCHAC Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa as the chief guest, along with Chairman Mohet Hojai, Executive Members of the council, senior bureaucrats and officials from various departments.
The celebrations began in the morning with a colourful procession from the council premises to Haflong Lake and back.
A major attraction of the rally was the pipe band performance by the Assam Police Battalion, which added ceremonial grandeur to the occasion.
Speaking on the significance of the day, District Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey, ACS, traced the history of district formation in this region, highlighting how administrative systems functioned in the early years and outlining the evolution of Dima Hasao as a district.
Addressing the gathering, CEM Debolal Gorlosa said the district stands as an example of balanced growth, with the council’s focus firmly on sustainable development while preserving the cultural roots of the region.
He said continuous efforts are being made to create greater opportunities for youth through employment, education and skill development.
NCHAC Chairman Mohet Hojai, while extending greetings on the occasion, briefly spoke on the formation of the district and the development initiatives undertaken over the years.
The celebration vividly reflected the district’s rich cultural heritage, with students from various educational institutions and traditional performers from different communities participating in the programme.
Local artistes presented a graceful Dimasa dance, which drew warm applause from the audience.
Among others present were Executive Members Donpainon Thaosen and Niranjan Hojai, Deputy Chairman of the District Planning Board and MAC Dhriti Thaosen, MAC Ajoy Chakraborty, Haflong Town Committee Chairperson Ripa Hojai, Dima Hasao Superintendent of Police Ripunjoy Kakati, APS, and officials from the council, district administration and police department.
