SIVASAGAR, Aug 13: The Assam State AIDS Control Committee, in collaboration with the Sivasagar District AIDS Control Cell, on Tuesday launched a comprehensive district-level Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign to spread awareness on health issues, particularly HIV/AIDS.
The programme began with an awareness rally, inaugurated by District Joint Director of Health Services Dr Makhan Kalita, from Sivasagar Civil Hospital to Joysagar Chariali.

Following the rally, an awareness meeting was held under the chairmanship of Executive Magistrate (Health) Parismita Dihingia.
District AIDS Control Cell Officer Dr. Dwijen Koch said the two-month campaign aims to sensitise the public, youth and students about the seriousness of HIV/AIDS and its prevention.
The IEC campaign, launched simultaneously in 25 districts of Assam, will include targeted outreach to ensure the message reaches a larger section of society.
The rally and meeting saw participation from ICTC Counsellor Nav Talukdar, Sivasagar Civil Hospital Superintendent Dr Sadhan Bora, Dr Ranjit Hazarika, Dr Prashant Pratim Sharma, Dr Dipamoni Saikia, Dr Nirmalya Chowdhury, Dr Rupam Barkakati, Dr Lalit Saikia, health department officials, and students from Bhagya Lakshmi Regional Child Welfare Centre, Shape NGO, Sivasagar National School, Joysagar High School and Joysagar Nursing School.
In a message, Deputy Commissioner Ayush Garg expressed hope that the campaign would generate widespread awareness about the threat posed by HIV/AIDS.
