JORHAT, Jan 10: ‘Jimochanya’ — a documentary film comprising the life and works of Jananeta Bhimbor Deuri was screened at the premises of the Jorhat College recently. The function was organized by the ‘Assam Film Society’ in collaboration with the ‘Jorhat College’.
As a part of screening the film, a meeting was also held.
Among the dignitaries present on the occasion were Dr Debabrata Sharma, Principal of Jorhat College, scientist and poet Poran Baruah, compiler of Deuri dictionary and educationist Nripen Deuri, folk artiste and writer Khogen Deuri, and the president of the ‘All Deuri Students Union’ Lalit Deuri.
The director of this documentary, Manuj Borpuzari narrated the various experiences during the film-shooting process. He also described the value of the life and works of the tribal leader.
It is worth mentioning that Bhimbor Deuri was a tribal leader belonging to the Deuri community. He played a pivotal role to save Assam from being tagged with Pakistan in the time of India-Pakistan division. Earlier, Dr Jayanta Madhab Dutta, general Secretary of the Assam Film Society extended the welcome address and also dwelt on the objectives of the function.
