JORHAT, Jan 25: A solemn award presentation and felicitation ceremony was held at Dr Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Memorial Hall, Jorhat, under the joint initiative of the Jorhat District Sahitya Sabha and the Dr Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Memorial Preservation Committee.
The prestigious Dr Nabin Chandra Bordoloi and Ideal Mother Tilottama Bordoloi Memorial Award was conferred during the programme, which was conducted by Mahendranath Hazarika, president of the Jorhat District Sahitya Sabha. The ceremonial lamp was lit by Dr Binoy Kumar Bordoloi, elder son of Dr Nabin Chandra Bordoloi, while floral tributes were offered by vice president of the Sahitya Sabha, Madhab Mahanta.
Participating as chief guest, retired Professor of Political Science, Dibrugarh University, Prof Dr Adil-ul-Yasin highlighted the multifaceted life and lasting contributions of Dr Nabin Chandra Bordoloi, stating that his ideals would continue to inspire future generations. He also acknowledged the contributions of Dr Binoy Kumar Bordoloi in the fields of education, society, literature and healthcare in Assam.
The commemorative souvenir “Smritimalya” was formally released by Nirada Gogoi Bora, vice president of the All Assam Women Writers’ Association. During the ceremony, eminent dancer and Director of Nrityakanan, Bandita Dutta Bordoloi was honoured with the 2025 Dr Nabin Chandra Bordoloi and Ideal Mother Tilottama Bordoloi Memorial Award. She received a gamosa, seleng chador, xorai, books, citation, jaapi, bouquet and a cash award of Rs 40,000. Accepting the award, she expressed gratitude and said the honour would inspire her to further dedicate herself to the performing arts.
Marking the birth centenary of Dr Nabin Chandra Bordoloi, several individuals from diverse fields were felicitated for their contributions to society. On the occasion, multiple editions and translations of the book “Namghar in America” by Dr Binoy Kumar Bordoloi were also formally released. The programme featured cultural presentations, including poetry recitation, dance and music performances and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Ruparekha Bordoloi. A large number of eminent personalities from the fields of education, literature, culture and media attended the event.
