TEZPUR, Nov 4: Natasurya Phani Sarma award winning veteran theater personality and actor of Assamese cinema, artist Bhola Kataki passed away on Friday.
Late Bhola Kataki was suffering from old-age ailments and was under treatment at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for the last many days.
However, he breathed his last on Friday afternoon around 2:15 pm.
Involved deeply in the cultural arena since his childhood, late Bhola Kakati made a name for himself as a skillful artist through his acting in a number of mobile theatres and Assamese films.
Kataki also served as an inspector in Apex Marketing Co-Operative society since 1957.
Later he served as headmaster of Jamuguri-Rangachakua ME School also till 1963.
Kataki wrote 15 one act plays, 5 full-length plays and 5 bhaona plays.
Connected with various cultural platforms including Jamugurihat Baresaharia Bhaona, Barpukhuripar Mukali Bihu, Bharatyia Gana Natya sangha, Asamiya Bhasha Unnati Sadhini Sabha, All Assam Moina Parijat, Asam Natya Sanmilan, Asam Sahitya Sabha, Bapuji Natya Samaj, Baan Theatre, Jatiya Unnayan Parishad and many others, late Kataki was also known as a good social organiser.
Different organisations and individuals including Sonitpur DC Deba Kumar Misra on behalf of the Sonitpur district administration, Asam Sahitya Sabha, Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha, Baan Theatre, Tezpur, Press clubs condoled the death of the veteran artist.
