Ex-KAAC EM Mohen Bey Passes Away

DIPHU, Aug 14: Former Executive Member (EM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and social worker Mohen Bey breathed his last at his residence, Rongmongve around 7 am on Sunday morning. Family sources said Bey died due to cardiac arrest.

Bey was a former leader of the Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) – CPI (ML) during the Autonomous State movement from 1986.

Before joining the movement he was an employee of the PHE department. In 1986 Bey contested the Member of Autonomous Council elections as an ASDC candidate from Socheng Dhenta MAC constituency and became an Executive Member of KAAC.

Bey was born at Kothalguri, Socheng Dhenta; his father is the late Hemram Bey and his mother is Kaluk Engtipi.

Bey was instrumental in the protest against the introduction of tiger and elephant corridors in the Karbi villages adjacent to Kaziranga National Park. He formed the Socheng Dhenta Development Council and Socheng Dhenta Youth Front.

Later Bey joined the BJP and sought a party ticket for MAC election, 2022. As he was denied a party ticket he contested as an independent candidate from Socheng Dhenta MAC constituency.

Getting the news of Bey’s demise, political leaders, supporters, and well-wishers have gone to pay their last respects.
