GUWAHATI, Dec 3: In a harrowing incident in state’s Kamrup district, a suspected drug peddler lost his life, and five individuals, including a policewoman, sustained injuries during a fierce gun battle in moving vehicles on Sunday, as confirmed by officials.

Kalyan Kumar Pathak, the additional superintendent of police in Kamrup, reported that a police checkpost was set up at Agiathuri near Amingaon following information about the movement of a vehicle carrying a narcotics consignment.

“Three drug peddlers were travelling in a luxury car. Upon instructing them to stop, they began firing at us from their moving vehicle, attempting to flee the scene. Without hesitation, we retaliated and pursued them. In the exchange of fire, one drug peddler lost his life on the spot, and two others sustained injuries during the encounter,” stated ASP Pathak.

Police Constable Hima Das suffered bullet injuries, and two local individuals, identified as Nur Islam and Rebati Bharali, were also wounded during the gunfire between the two parties. The deceased, identified as Salem, hailed from Guwahati, according to the officer.
