NAGAON, Feb 11: District agriculture department organized field day on rapeseed-mustard crop demonstration under ICAR-DRMR-APART project at Keribakori village under Kaliabor Block in Nagaon district on Friday last.
The main objective of the programme was to showcase the varietal performance of high yielding varieties of rapeseed mustard in which over 30 farmers participated.

Dr Ashok Kr Sharma, principal scientist and team leader, ICAR-DRMR, Bharatpur Rajasthan, attended the occasion as the chief guest while Dr G N Hazarika, resident consultant, ICAR-DRMR, Dr Vinod Kumar, principal scientist, ICAR-DRMR and Dr Arunima Deb Choudhury, state consultant, were present as invitees in the programme.
It is pertinent to mention that under the project four improved high-yielding varieties of rape and mustard suitable for the soil as well as climate of the state, were provided along with fertilizer and need-based pesticides.
Dr GN Hazarika welcomed the guests and participants and explained the importance of field day when Dr Sharma briefed them about the ongoing activities of the project as well as the performance of the varieties under the project.
He outlined all technological interventions like the selection of improved varieties, maintaining proper seed rate, line sowing, judicious use of fertilizer mainly SSP instead of DAP in mustard cultivation, IPM etc. for increasing production.
Dr Kumar emphasized the need to use digital platforms like Meghdoot, Krishi 2.0. which helps the farmers for better execution of farming practices. Subsequently, a farmers-scientists interactive meet was also organized.
Following the programme, the dignitaries as well as other officials from the district agriculture department and farmers visited mustard demonstrations on varieties like PM-28, DRMR 150-35, NRCHB-101 at village Keribakori, Chatialgaon and Madhatari where they expressed their happiness over the performance of the varieties in Nagaon district. Ranjan P. Deka, DAO, Nagaon, advised the farmers to disseminate the seeds among their fellow farmers and increase the area under mustard cultivation, stated an official press release.
