HOJAI, July 10, 2025: The newly constructed first phase of the Rabindranath Tagore University campus at Sagarbasti, near Hojai town, was formally handed over to the university authorities by the Building Division of the Public Works Department (PWD), Hojai district, on Wednesday. This was stated in an official press release issued by Rabindranath Tagore University.
A brief handover ceremony was organised on the occasion, attended by officials from both the PWD and the university.

According to the release, the construction project received administrative approval under AA/PWB_2022-23(I)_1573, dated November 15, 2022.
The sanctioned project cost was approx ₹5891.6 lakh, while the tendered amount stood at approx ₹5640.4 lakh.
The work order, numbered CE/TB-VI/46/2022/27, was issued on December 30, 2022, with construction commencing on the same day and completed within the stipulated timeframe.
The project was executed under the supervision of contractor firm M/s M P Khaitan.
It included a double-storied academic building measuring 8,366 square meters, an administrative building of 2,848 square meters, internal and external electrification, sub-station, EPABX and LAN connectivity, water supply and sanitary systems, fire safety installations, road construction, site development, boundary wall, gate, landscaping, installation of furniture, and other finishing works.
During the handover, the Assistant Engineer, Assistant Executive Engineer, and Executive Engineer from the Hojai and Binakandi Territorial Building Sub-Division were present.
On behalf of the university, the campus was received by Dr Shekhar Kanti Sarkar, Acting Registrar of Rabindranath Tagore University.
Prior to the formal acceptance, the university’s Engineering Division, Registrar’s Branch, and other relevant departments inspected and verified the infrastructure.
The release stated that the new campus at Sagarbasti would enhance the university’s academic environment and infrastructural capacity, ensuring a modern and student-friendly atmosphere.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Manabendra Dutta Choudhury expressed his sincere gratitude to PWD officials, engineers, and the construction firm for completing the project on time with commitment.
He noted that the handover marks the beginning of a new and promising chapter in the educational and institutional development of Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai.
