JORHAT, Sept 23: Pulibar police arrested five persons on Tuesday in connection with the blockade of National Highway 715 near Ajanta Bypass and threats to demolish the Jorhat Press Club.
The protestors had demanded that the mortal remains of singer Zubeen Garg be brought to Jorhat for a few hours.
Police resorted to a mild lathi charge to clear the blockade during the post-midnight hours between Monday and Tuesday.

The blockade, which began Sunday night, had crippled vehicular movement in upper Assam, causing severe inconvenience to commuters and even ambulances, as the protestors refused to heed police instructions.
On Monday, the protestors allegedly threatened to damage the Jorhat Press Club over the lack of live coverage of their stir by electronic and digital media.
In response, police provided security to the Press Club and arrested five persons, including one from Dhemaji district.
Among the accused is Chandan Das of Teok Boloma, who was seen in a video issuing the threat.
The other four are Ujjal Bora (27) and Dhrubajyoti Sharma (30), both from the Pulibar area, Bitupan Baishya (28) of Rowriah, Jorhat, and Debojit Gogoi (24) from Dhemaji.
The five have been booked under sections 49, 121(2), 74, 75(2), 189(3), 190, 285, 126(2), 223, and 132 of the BNS in Pulibar PS case number 122/2025.
Meanwhile, normal life resumed on Tuesday, the fifth day after the sudden demise of iconic singer and musician Zubeen Garg, following his last rites at Guwahati’s Sonapur.
Shops and business establishments reopened in the afternoon, vehicles gradually returned to the roads, and grocery shops and vegetable markets witnessed a rush of customers.
