DONGKAMUKAM, May 17: The flood situation in West Karbi Anglong has turned from bad to worse with almost all roads from Tumpreng to Satgaon going underwater thus snapping connectivity.
The affected families have taken refuge on the embankment by building temporary tents with their livestock like cows, goats, pigs and chickens.
In the afternoon, the police from Dongkamukam police outpost fanned out to control the people from crossing the stretch so that they do not get washed away by the strong current. Till now no casualty has occurred in the flood. Almost 80 percent of Bithung Rengthama and 50 per cent Rongkhang Member of Autonomous Council constituencies have gone underwater, which is the worst this year.
In the meantime, the Christian missionaries stationed at Don Bosco, Satgaon in West Karbi Anglong, Fr Albert Thyrniang, Fr Robert Faustin, Rev Sis Lakhina Marak, Rev Sis Rifulin Nongsiej and a layman Hillarious Sangma distributed relief materials to the affected families at Deramukh, Kollongamukh and new Bithung village.
