NAGAON, July 5: The flood situation in Nagaon district remains critical, with over 197 villages across Kaliabor, Raha, Samaguri, Dhing, Kampur, and Nagaon reeling under floodwaters, according to the official record issued by the district disaster management authority.
Although the water level of the Brahmaputra River at Silghat has slightly receded, the Kolong river continues to flow above its danger level through Nagaon town. The floods have severely affected more than 65,000 people and impacted 61,088 domestic animals. Additionally, floodwaters have inundated over 18,363 hectares of crop land in these affected revenue circles.
Specifically, 14 villages in Nagaon revenue circle, 38 in Raha revenue circle, 51 in Kaliabor revenue circle, 22 in Samaguri revenue circle, 57 in Kampur revenue circle, and 15 in Dhing revenue circle are still submerged.
In response, the district administration has established 14 relief camps in the affected areas and is distributing essential supplies such as food, sanitary pads, biscuits, water bottles, and other necessities to the flood victims.
On Friday morning, overflowing waters from the Kolong river submerged several areas in Nagaon town, including Nagaon Shiva Nagar, Kumartoop, and the Nagaon Law College area. The Nagaon Municipality Board has issued microphonic announcements across the town, urging riverine residents to remain vigilant and ensure their safety.
Meanwhile, the water level of the Kapili river has slightly decreased on Friday afternoon in Kampur, although it continues to flow above its danger mark.
