Guwahati, Nov 04:The sound of flutes fills Seuj Sangha in Ambikagiri Nagar this afternoon as Guwahati gathers to pay tribute to flautist Dipak Sarma. Since morning, students, musicians, and admirers have taken turns playing the flute, offering a musical farewell to the artist whose compositions shaped Assam’s musical identity.
Crowds continue to arrive, moving slowly through the venue to place flowers and bow in respect. Leading figures from the state’s cultural and music community are present, recalling Sarma’s ability to blend Assamese folk tones with contemporary expression.
Sarma’s mortal remains arrived in Guwahati earlier on Tuesday from Chennai on a chartered flight and were taken to Seuj Sangha for public homage. His cremation is scheduled later this afternoon at Navagraha crematorium.
The 57-year-old flautist passed away at 6:15 AM on Monday, November 3, in a Chennai hospital after prolonged treatment for a rare liver ailment. He had been under care in Guwahati before being moved to Chennai for advanced medical attention.
