GUWAHATI, Nov 3: The mortal remains of eminent flutist Dipak Sarma, who passed away in Chennai early Monday morning, will be flown to Guwahati on Tuesday in a special chartered aircraft.
Family sources informed that the flight carrying his body is scheduled to depart from Chennai around 5 a.m. and will arrive at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport shortly after.

From the airport, his mortal remains will be taken directly to his residence at Ambikagiri Nagar in Guwahati.
After the completion of the last rites at his home, the body will be kept at Seuj Sangha from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for members of the public, fans, and representatives of cultural organisations to pay their final respects.
Following the public homage, the mortal remains will be taken to the Navagraha cremation ground for the final rites.
Dipak Sarma, aged 57, passed away at 6:15 a.m. on Monday at a Chennai hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for a rare liver ailment. The acclaimed musician had earlier been admitted to a hospital in Guwahati before being shifted to Chennai for advanced medical care.
Sarma’s demise has left a deep void in Assam’s cultural and musical landscape. Known for his mastery over the flute and his soulful renditions rooted in Assamese folk traditions, he was widely regarded as one of the state’s most accomplished instrumentalists.
Over a career spanning more than three decades, Dipak Sarma collaborated with leading artists from across India and performed on numerous national and international stages.
He was also a regular presence in All India Radio and Doordarshan music programmes and received several honours, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (Assam) for his contribution to Indian classical and traditional music.
Tributes have poured in from across Assam, with fellow musicians, cultural bodies, and admirers describing him as a “gentle soul whose flute echoed the essence of Assamese identity.”
