KHERONI, May 24: A sand Mahaldar (contractor) in West Karbi Anglong has filed an FIR at Kheroni police station against the chairman of the forest development board, Sarthe Kramsa, and his brother, who is an in-charge range officer of the forest department, for extortion and harassment.

Mahaldar Birmal Engleng, in the complaint, alleged that in-spite of having a challan and all proper documents, Harsing Kramsa, the range officer in-charge of Kheroni Southern Range, collected Rs 300 per truck and dumper of sand.

The task of collecting the illegal money is delegated personally by Harsing Kramsa to one Nayan Nayak. There is evidence of Nayan Nayak transferring money to Harsing Kramsa through Gpay and UPI.

In the FIR filed by the Mahaldar, he said, “I have already paid Rs 38,700 only through UPI and Rs 4,00,000 paid in cash to Harsing Kramsa in charge of Kheroni Southern Range. The Ranger Officer also demanded that I have to pay Rs 500 as a charge to the forest development board, chairman.”

So, as per the Mahaldar, the elder brother of Sarthe Kramsa, range officer in-charge, who is the chairman of the forest development board, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), also allegedly collects Rs 500 per truck and dumper of sand.
