Manas Pratim Saikia, research scholar from IIT Bombay introduced the speaker, National Mineral award recipient Prof Tapas Kumar Biswal of Department of Earth Science, IIT, Bombay. Dr Biswal delivered a talk on ‘Development of fold, fault and ductile shear zone’. Prof Biswal addressed numerous areas of geology, with a focus on geochronology and isotope geology in his talk. He explained how World Geologists’ Day has been significant since 1966, to recognise the importance of geological research following the discovery of oil reserves in Siberia, Soviet Union. He discussed structural geology and pictorially depicted the features associated with faults and folds at the Aravalli range.
