Gauhati University clinches best university title

GUWAHATI, Feb 11: Gauhati University has clinched the title of the best university, claiming an impressive total of 25 prizes at the North East Zone Inter University Youth Festival 2024. The event, hosted at Royal Global University under the auspices of the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, saw Gauhati University excel across various categories.

In the fine arts section, Gauhati University shone brightly, securing victories in a multitude of disciplines including on-the-spot painting, collage making, poster designing, cartooning, rangoli, spot photography, and installation art. The literary section witnessed triumph in the quiz competition, while the music segment celebrated victories in classical vocal solo, classical instrumental solo (both percussion and non-percussion), light vocal Indian, western vocal solo, group song western, and folk orchestra. The dance category saw success in classical dance, and in theatre, accolades were earned in one act play, skit, mime, and mimicry performances.

Demonstrating remarkable prowess, Gauhati University’s excellence extended further as it claimed the title of the best group in both the fine arts and theatre sections. Additionally, the university secured the third-best group position in the dance category and attained the second position in the cultural procession, solidifying its status as the overall champion among all universities in the North Eastern region.

The dedicated team, led by Dr Ranjan Kr Kakati, director of Students’ Welfare at Gauhati University, and Dr Debashis Saikia, assistant professor at USIC, GU, played an instrumental role in guiding the participants to success. Heartfelt congratulations poured in from vice-chancellor Prof Pratap Jyoti Handique, registrar Dr Hemanta Kr Nath, DSW Dr Ranjan Kr Kakati, and secretary of University Classes Prof Jagadish Sarma, who lauded the winners and the entire team from Gauhati University.

The victorious participants are now set to represent Gauhati University at the upcoming National Youth Festival under the AIU, scheduled to take place at Punjab Agricultural University in March 2024.
