DHUBRI, April 21: Several labourers have reportedly fallen ill after a mechanised boat loaded with geobags met with an accident near Fakirganj in Dhubri district. The incident occurred while the boat was transporting the bags—used primarily for erosion control and flood management—along the Brahmaputra River.
According to local sources, the boat capsized or sustained damage during transit, leading to the exposure of the workers to potentially contaminated materials or hazardous conditions. Shortly after the mishap, a number of labourers began complaining of symptoms including dizziness, nausea, and respiratory distress.
Local administration officials have also confirmed that efforts are underway to ensure the safety of other workers involved in similar operations, and measures are being considered to prevent such incidents in the future.
