Gossaigaon pays tribute to litterateur Satish Chandra Choudhury

GOSSAIGAON, Oct 3: The Gossaigaon branch of Assam Sahitya Sabha organised a condolence meeting for the departed soul of renowned litterateur and vice-president Satish Chandra Choudhury of Assam Sahitya Sabha at the premises of Kamal Nath Club Library recently.

Dr Tarani Kanta Kalita, general secretary of the Gossaigaon branch of Assam Sahitya Sabha, in his introductory speech, recalled the life and contributions of Satish Chandra Choudhury, who held the position of vice-president of Assam Sahitya Sabha.

It is noteworthy that Satish Chandra Choudhury served twice as general secretary of the Assam Sahitya Sabha and was the vice-president in 2009. He was also a prominent social worker and an assistant teacher at Bajali Higher Secondary School. As a writer, Choudhury authored books for nearly four decades, including significant works such as ‘Patsalar Itibritta’, ‘Kamrupar Utsav Parva’, and ‘Dubipori Haraeswar Dewalayar Dewdasi Nritya’, which earned him recognition in literary circles, added Dr Kalita.

Choudhury was also involved in journalism and contributed to both English and Assamese newspapers. People from all walks of life will always appreciate the land he donated to the Pathsala Press Club. Khanindra Nath Das, branch president of the Gossaigaon Sahitya Sabha, asserted in his speech that, as vice-president of Assam Sahitya Sabha, Choudhury visited Gossaigaon on January 17, 2009, to celebrate Artist Day.

As a mark of respect, the flag of Gossaigaon Sahitya Sabha will remain at half-mast for three days in front of the branch office, added Khanindra Nath Das.

During the event, a one-minute silent prayer was observed for the departed soul, praying for his eternal peace. Several individuals, including branch advisor Putul Chandra Das and assistant secretary Bijon Dey, attended the condolence meeting.
