GUWAHATI, Jan 23: The 127th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Haflong, Dima Hasao, on Tuesday. The celebration committee organised a day-long program to honour the iconic leader, culminating in a spirited rally that attracted participants from diverse communities.
The rally, starting from the Cultural Institute Hall in Haflong, traversed the main thoroughfare with slogans such as ‘Netaji Amar Rehey’ and ‘Bharat Mamta Ki Joy’. The procession concluded at the statue of Netaji near the police traffic point after passing through Council Rotary.
The celebration unfolded with the hoisting of the INF Flag at the Netaji Statue, accompanied by floral tributes and garlanding. Mohit Hojai, chairman of NC Hills Autonomous Council, was present as the chief guest, joined by NCHAC MAC Donpahinon Thaosen, Gopa Chaudhury (president of the celebration committee), secretary Abhijit Das, and other dignitaries.A public meeting at the Cultural Hall in Haflong followed, featuring discussions on the life and contributions of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The meeting was graced by chief guest Mohit Hojai, Dima Hasao SP Mayank Kr Jha, and NCHAC MAC Donpahinon Thaosen. The meeting delved into discussions highlighting the life and contributions of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, a key figure in the Indian independence movement who advocated armed revolution.
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, born around January 23, 1897, in Cuttack, Orissa (Odisha), India, played a revolutionary role in the fight against British rule in India. His leadership extended to an Indian national force during World War II, where he opposed Western powers. Bose, a contemporary of Mahatma Gandhi, displayed a militant approach to independence and advocated for socialist policies.
On this auspicious day, floral tributes were paid to statues of various freedom fighters and notable personalities around Haflong town. Additionally, the statue of Netaji was illuminated, marking the occasion with symbolic light.
The celebration concluded with a vibrant cultural program featuring renowned artists, followed by the distribution of prizes to participants in various competitions organised for children in honour of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
Our Margherita correspondent adds: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s 127th birth anniversary was celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm at various places under the 83rd Margherita constituency on Tuesday. The celebrations took place at Margherita Public Higher Secondary School field playground, Margherita Chariali, Bargolai Netaji Park, Ledo Netaji Bhawan Samity, and Ledo Rod Gaon Primary School, organised by ‘Dishari’ in collaboration with the local residents.
At Ledo Netaji Bhawan Samity, the program began with the hoisting of the national flag by Tehan Hakun, the village pradhan (gaon burah) of Malu village, Ledo. This was followed by the illumination of earthen lamps and garlanding of flowers at the portrait of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose by noted social workers of Ledo – Bappi Sarkar, Krishna Acharjee, Utpal Chakraborty, and also by Anup Biswas and Chiranjib Acharjee, both president and general secretary of Ledo Netaji Bhawan Samity.
Distinguished invited persons then spoke about the life of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and his contributions to the country’s independence. Various competitions among school children were held, including art competitions, recitations, sports competitions, and cultural programs.
Anup Biswas said that, like every year, this year, they celebrated Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s 127th birth anniversary with great joy and enthusiasm, with people of all communities attending, making the occasion a memorable day.
Ram Prasad Ambedkar, advisor of Margherita Journalists Association, who was present during the program, highlighted that Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was a mass leader. He emphasised the need for unity beyond religious divides in the country, expressing concerns about the present scenario where people are increasingly focusing on religion, which he sees as a potential threat to society, the state, the country, and humanity as a whole.
Our Demow correspondent adds: The 127th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was celebrated in Demow by the All Assam Bengali Youth Students Federation (AABYSF), Demow Regional Committee. The event took place at Demow Kali Mandir premises on Tuesday.
Rabindra Ghosh, secretary of All Assam Bengali Youth Students Federation (AABYSF), Sivasagar District Committee, lit the ceremonial lamp in front of the photo of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. During the celebration, Rabindra Ghosh delivered a valuable speech on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, and Rupsa Ghosh performed a patriotic song. The program concluded with the singing of the national anthem.
Our Sivasagar correspondent adds: The birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was commemorated at Doulmukh Chariali, Sivasagar, through a street meeting organised by the Doulmukh Chariali Vyabasayee Santha and Alok Sangha. The event featured the lighting of ceremonial lamps and the laying of floral tributes to the great patriot by notable figures such as writer and educationist Samsul Barik, journalist Manoj Kumar Borthakur, Pranjal Rajguru (president, Alok Sangha), and Bokul Borthakur (president, Doulmukh Chariali Vyabasayee Santha).
Addressing the gathering, Samsul Barik said that Subhash Bose’s uncompromising self and ideals continue to inspire the nation. Manoj Kr Borthakur highlighted Bose’s dream of making India self-reliant in defense production, which he noted is being implemented by the present government. Pranjal Rajguru expressed the belief that Subhash Chandra Bose would have tackled corruption decisively had he lived longer.
