NAGAON, Nov 23: In a remarkable agricultural initiative, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon, organised a grand harvest program for Sali paddy at the fields of Bamungaon under the Khagarijan block. The event, conducted on Thursday, featured the utilisation of a mini combine harvester, bringing a wave of enthusiasm among local farmers.
The initiative, part of the Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART), was inaugurated by Dr Niranjan Deka, principal scientist, and head of KVK, Nagaon. Dr Deka, in his inaugural speech, welcomed distinguished guests and participants, highlighting the program’s objectives and the benefits of employing the mini combine harvester.
Dr Vipin Kumar, associate scientist at IRRI, emphasised the various objectives achieved under the APART, IRRI project, highlighting the introduced mechanisation and the advantages of utilising modern machinery in agriculture.
The event saw the participation of Ranjan P Deka, DAO, Nagaon; Kanchan Pator Bordoloi, ZPC Khagarijan block, and over a hundred farmers from different blocks of Nagaon district. The program included a hands-on demonstration of the mini combine harvester by Priyanka Deka and Rajib Panging, showcasing the efficient harvesting of Bahadur Sub1 variety paddy.
Pabitra Kumar Nath and Janmejay Biswal, experts in their field, operated the mini combine harvester, leaving participants impressed with its capabilities. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr N. Deka, head of KVK, Nagaon, as per an official release. This grand harvest marks a significant step towards agricultural modernisation in the region.
