GUWAHATI, Nov 22: The Northeast’s pop-culture fandom witnessed a milestone moment on Friday as Comic Con India debuted its maiden Guwahati edition at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex. Presented by Maruti Suzuki Arena and powered by Crunchyroll, the event opened to an enthusiastic crowd of fans, creators, gamers and cosplayers from across the region.
Chief Secretary Dr Ravi Kota graced the opening day, which featured creator sessions, performances, cosplay showcases and immersive experiences that kept visitors engaged throughout.
Globally acclaimed Archie Comics artist Bill Golliher interacted with fans, while 16 Indian creators showcased their latest works. Among them were Arunachal Pradesh’s renowned illustrator Tadam Gyadu—known for contributions to Marvel titles such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Ghost Rider and The Avengers and Assam’s digital storyteller Debojyoti Choudhury, celebrated for his culture-rich art and strong online following.
The day also highlighted engaging sessions including a storytelling showcase by Studio Kapi, an interactive talk with artist Rajesh Nagulakonda and the launch of ‘Raj Rahman: The Weight We Carry’ by Bullseye Press. Amar Chitra Katha’s special session revived classic Indian narratives for a new audience.On stage, attendees enjoyed an interactive WingStar-themed activity by Tinkle, a high-energy performance by Unity One Crew and a comic set by Krishnendu Paul. Musician Kai RJ captivated listeners with English–Japanese fusion tracks, before MC Headshot closed the evening with a powerful live set.
One of the biggest attractions was Guwahati’s largest cosplay competition, featuring characters ranging from Deadpool, Iron Man and Hellboy to anime favourites like Mitsuri (Demon Slayer) and Quanxi (Chainsaw Man), as well as gaming characters like Azir from ‘League of Legends’. Cosplayers posed with fans as they competed for the Rs 30,000 top prize.
Visitors also enjoyed immersive installations, including a Spy x Family room and Demon Slayer zone at the Crunchyroll booth. Additional attractions included the Maruti Suzuki Arena reflex zones, NODWIN Gaming Challenger Arena, RedBull Gaming Ground, Logitech Race for Real simulator, a VR cricket experience by Royal Challenge Packaged Drinking Water and a PSP zone.
With strong participation and high-impact performances, Day 1 set a promising tone for Guwahati Comic Con’s future editions. Day 2 will feature leading esports personality Scout (Tanmay Singh), who will meet fans, participate in live gaming challenges and share insights into India’s evolving esports landscape.
Comic Con India CEO Shefali Johnson said the debut marks a special milestone for the platform. “The Northeast is full of energy, passion and creativity and today’s crowd has reaffirmed just how vibrant this community is. Our aim is to create a space where fans, artists and storytellers can come together to celebrate the worlds they love, while inspiring the next generation of creators in a region so rich in stories, talent and imagination,” she said.
