Guwahati gears up for grand Ayurveda Day celebration

Prior to the grand run, a thrilling ‘Bikers Rally’ is set to rev up the city on 6th November

GUWAHATI, Nov 4: The Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), Guwahati, a distinguished autonomous institution under the Central Council for Research in Ayurveda Sciences (CCRAS) of the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, is gearing up for a spectacular celebration of Ayurveda Day on 7th November, 2023.

As per an official statement, CARI has organized a ‘Run For Ayurveda’ on the morning of 7th November, 2023, aiming to promote the ancient healing tradition of Ayurveda. Prior to the grand run, a thrilling ‘Bikers Rally’ is set to rev up the city on 6th November, 2023.

The run up to the Ayurveda Day, which is going to be celebrated on 10th November, 2023, has already witnessed many other activities in this month long celebration to create mass awareness about Ayurveda and its effectiveness as a preferred mean to improve the quality of life. Regular health camps are being held in the rural areas of different parts of Assam as part of this initiative. To engage the young minds as well as youths of the state, experts from CARI are visiting schools to give health talks specifically from Ayurveda point of view.

“In addition, street play, drawing competition, quiz competition, debate competition, Rangoli making competition were held during this month among different parts of the society, especially the students community and the youth. Display of medicinal plants as well as health talks have been organised on a regular basis for the benefit of the patients and the public at large,” the statement added.

CARI along with CSIR-Northeast Institute of Science and Technology (CSIR-NEIST) also organised a host of activities to celebrate & create awareness about the Ayurveda Day, 2023. The Chemistry department of CARI gave a presentation on use of best raw materials for making Ayurvedic formulations as well as investigation into the quantitative estimates the bio-active components present in raw drugs to ensure efficacy. Multiple lectures by experts from CARI along with a health camp were also organised. A seminar on “Healthy Lifestyle through Ayurveda” was also organised during this day-long event in Jorhat campus of CSIR-NEIST.

Today, the students of Sankardeva Sishu Vidya Niketan visited the CARI premises to understand different aspects of Ayurvedic treatment including Panchakarma and a visit to the Herbal Garden of Medicinal plants. In this garden, more than 150 types of important and a few rare medicinal plants, which are mostly found only in the Northeast India, are preserved for demonstration purpose.

Addressing a press conference, the assistant director (in-charge), Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), Dr  Dinesh Baruah, said, “Ayurveda, the ancient science of life, has the power to heal and harmonise our well-being. Celebrating Ayurveda Day, CARI is revving up buzz with a Bikers Rally and a Run for Ayurveda. With the guidance from the Honourable Union Minister of Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal sir, we are working towards achieving the vision of our Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji of a Swastha Bharat. Together, we ride and run to promote this timeless wisdom and create mass awareness about the healing potential of Ayurveda. Join us as we rediscover the art of holistic living and well-being on this special day.”

Highlighting the rich potential of medicinal plants of the Northeast and Assam, Dr Devanjal Bora, research officer (Botany), CARI, said, “In the lush landscapes of Northeast India lies a treasure trove of medicinal plants, waiting to unveil their healing secrets. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s visionary directive to CARI – to perform a detailed survey of medicinal plants in all the states including interviewing of folk healers from different communities – reflects our commitment to unearth this rich potential. Together, we embark on a journey to harness the wisdom of folk healers and explore the boundless possibilities of Ayurveda, ensuring a healthier and brighter future for all.”

Concluding the press meet, Dr Manajit Bora, research Officer (Pharmacology), CARI, said, “I take this opportunity to call upon everyone to join us in the ‘Run for Ayurveda’ with the esteemed presence of chief guest.
