GUWAHATI, Nov 26: In connection with a land document fraud case, Guwahati police have apprehended Bapdhan Das, who worked as a lat mondol at the Dispur Revenue Circle Office. The investigation and interrogation of Das were part of a probe into a complaint registered at the cyber police station under various sections of the IPC and the IT Act.
The arrest follows a recent success by Assam Police in dismantling a counterfeit land documents printing operation in Guwahati’s Kharghuli area. During the raid, various items such as volume registers, thumb impression books, fake official stamps, laptops, land records, and stamp papers were discovered. These items were being used to create fraudulent historical land records.
Guwahati Police had earlier questioned an employee from the Sub-Registrar office in Guwahati and an advocate, leading to crucial information and subsequent action. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the police operation on his social media handle, emphasising the uncovering of a significant racket involved in the production of counterfeit land documents.
